The current strategy of using NSAIDs for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea to broadly blocking prostaglandin production is less than optimal and is associated with unwanted side effects. The availability of an orally available specific and efficacious FP receptor antagonist has the potential to replace NSAIDs as first line therapy for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, particularly if the more direct prostaglandin blockade provided a faster onset of action.
An oral product would be the optimal formulation for treatment of dysmenorrhea. It is possible that a woman could take the medication just prior to her expected onset of menstruation thereby averting the course of dysmenorrhea. The Company’s library of peptidomimetics include compounds with nanomolar potency and efficacy in an animal model of preterm labour.
